Take the test until you get a higher score. Also look at the areas you missed and study those theories. We had a study group for the last few months and we would use flash cards. Also look for words that are recognizable for each theory in the answers such as reframing, enactment. What was your score? go over the ones you missed with someone helps too, then take the test again a few days later to reinforce what you learned, this helped me. I scored 69, 72, 82 so just keep at it!
The MFT exam is an application exam - You need to concentrate on ALL the Family Theories - Bowen, MRI, solution, strategic, structural, systemic, narrative, communication, experiential, psychoanalytic, contextual etc. So you need to know not only the BASIC info and differences between the orientations but also THE APPLICATION of the theories to specific case study situations. Don't forget to also go over MH theories as well, Cognitve, Behavioral, REBT etc. as you probably will run into some of them as well. But remember, you are after the understanding of APPLICATION which requires analysis, synthesis and evaluative skills and not just a cognitive understanding of the facts. Try to study by examining family, couples, and extended family situations and how different theoretical orientations would approach the presenting problems as well as what different techniques would be used to resolve and work towards positive outcomes - Linton
